In 1965, Mas Oyama, director of the International Kyokushin Organization, sent his chief instructor, Soshu Shigeru Oyama,from Tokyo International headquarters to New York to spread Kyokushin Karate world wide. Mas Oyama was born as Choi Yeong-Eui (최영의) in Kintei, Korea. At a young age he was sent to Manchukuo to live on his sister's farm.
